Once a month, Still Point Wellness massage therapists, front desk staff, spa management, and co-owners gather to deepen our connection with one another through discussion. Over the past few months we've been exploring our core values. What are they? How do we define them? What do they look like in action? This month, we talked about mindfulness.
Mindfulness defined
What is mindfulness? It’s one of those words that we hear and say quite often. We all seem to understand what it means, but do we define it in the same way?
We began our session with a 10 minute mindful meditation led by Robin, while Corey played the didgeridoo. We then split into groups and got to work to co-create our own definition of the word, and here’s what we came up with:
The practice of presence and awareness of the relationship between the self, others, and the environment through conscious thought, emotion, and action.
Mindfulness in Action
We spent time thinking about examples of what mindfulness looks like for us in our day-to-day experience. Mindfulness to us is:
walking and talking gently throughout the spa
setting an intention to be of service and hold a healing space for anyone who enters the spa
not rushing through any process
communicating with one another so we are all on the same page and can support one another throughout the day
arriving with enough time to prepare for the day ahead
taking care of ourselves so that we can take care of others
listening deeply and taking the time to reflect on what was heard
noticing and making little adjustments to make the space more comfortable
To be mindful is to take care of ourselves, each other, and the space we share. Mindfulness is at the core of what motivates us, why we choose this work, and why we love it so much. Being mindful is not always easy, but the reward of slowing down and paying attention is worth the effort. Mindfulness facilitates better communication, a safe space for transformational experiences, and the time to reflect on our journey with one another.
